Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome
Superior mesenteric artery syndrome is a rare condition in which part of the duodenum, the first section of the small bowel, is squeezed between the superior mesenteric artery and the aorta. This blocks food from passing through and causes vomiting, bloating, pain after eating and weight loss. Treatment starts with nutritional support to restore weight, and surgery is considered when this does not help.
