Adrenocortical Carcinoma
Adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare cancer that starts in the outer layer (cortex) of the adrenal glands, which sit above the kidneys. Some tumours make excess hormones such as cortisol, which can cause symptoms like weight gain or high blood pressure. Treatment usually involves surgery, and may include the medicine mitotane, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
This overview is general information, not an individual medical assessment. Research is selected automatically and may include mismatches. How we select and explain research.
Most Recent Research
Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare and aggressive malignancy with recurrence rates of 54–70% following curative-intent resection, even after microscopically complete (R0) surgery. In this review, we summarize the current evidence for adjuvant mitotane, platinum-based chemotherapy, and radiation therapy in resected ACC, and discuss patient selection based on prognostic risk stratification. We also highlight the importance of multidisciplinary management at expert centers, remaining evidence gaps, and future directions including biomarker-driven treatment strategies.

How many clinical trials are available for Adrenocortical Carcinoma?
RareWays currently indexes 73 clinical trials for Adrenocortical Carcinoma, of which 17 are actively recruiting. These counts cover indexed trials across countries, not just your country. An Australian site does not necessarily mean that site is recruiting. Check locations, eligibility and current availability with the study team.
Where does the research data for Adrenocortical Carcinoma come from?
RareWays aggregates research from PubMed, Europe PMC, OpenAlex, and ClinicalTrials.gov. Data is refreshed automatically every day. All articles and trials link directly to their original sources.
