Kaposi Sarcoma
Kaposi sarcoma is a rare cancer of the cells lining blood and lymph vessels. It usually appears as purple, red or brown patches or lumps on the skin, and can also affect the mouth, lymph nodes, lungs and gut. It is caused by infection with Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus and is more likely when the immune system is weakened. Treatment depends on the type and extent, and includes improving immune function, local therapies and chemotherapy.

Most Recent Research
Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a KSHV/HHV-8-driven vascular neoplasm with heterogeneous HIV-negative epidemiological settings. Immune-checkpoint blockade is biologically plausible, but direct clinical evidence remains limited to a small, non-comparative phase II cohort of pembrolizumab in classic or endemic KS. Its 71% best objective response rate is a signal that warrants confirmation, not comparative evidence or a basis for biomarker-guided treatment. This narrative review distinguishes established clinical observations from candidate translational hypotheses, appraises analytical and biological limitations of proposed markers, and outlines requirements for prospective subtype-stratified validation. PD-L1 expression, tumor mutational burden, and KSHV DNA should not be used as stand-alone selection or exclusion tests in routine care.

How many clinical trials are available for Kaposi Sarcoma?
RareWays currently indexes 118 clinical trials for Kaposi Sarcoma, of which 10 are actively recruiting. These counts cover indexed trials across countries, not just your country. An Australian site does not necessarily mean that site is recruiting. Check locations, eligibility and current availability with the study team.
Where does the research data for Kaposi Sarcoma come from?
RareWays aggregates research from PubMed, Europe PMC, OpenAlex, and ClinicalTrials.gov. Data is refreshed automatically every day. All articles and trials link directly to their original sources.
